Long time lurker here, Bring someone who has wrenched if you are not sure what to look for. I ran into the same thing on a SV650 and it came down to the basics. gear before ego.
Quick thought, Used and slightly boring is the right first bike, save the fun one for later. Cheaped out once, paid for it twice, never again.
Honestly, Meet in daylight, bring cash, and walk if anything feels off. Spent years fighting this, simple maintenance beats fancy parts every time.
In my experience, A cheap bike with no records is a project, price it like one. My Street Triple taught me patience on exactly this.
